Empire Actor Jussie Smollett case dropped, Mayor and Police Dept. Reacted

The Popular Empire Actor Jussie Smollett who was charged in hoax case has been said to have no charges by the prosecutor.

Smollett said he has been truthful and consistent in the jump. According to the prosecutor, dropping the charges against him was just and appropriate, though the Mayor and police department were not comfortable with such judgment.

According to CNN report, hours after prosecutors announced the “Empire” actor would face no charges on allegations that he duped police into thinking he had been the victim of a hate-fueled attack, Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel and Police Superintendent Eddie Johnson held a news conference excoriating Smollett and the Cook County State’s Attorney Office.

Empire actor Jussie Smollett pleads not guilty in hoax case

Jussie Smollett, an actor in the popular movie Empire has pleaded not guilty to charges of lying to Police Department about being a victim of racist and homophobic assault.

Smollett is a black man openly known as a gay. It has been said that it was Smollett himself who hired two men to help him stage an attack on him in downtown Chicago on the 29th of January.


“Prosecutors did not consult his office. He learned that the charges for filing a false police report were dropped the same time the media did” Johnson said.

According to Emanuel, the deal struck between the actor and the prosecutor’s office threatens to render hate crime laws toothless. People of every faith, race and sexual orientation stand to suffer for it.
